“Creating Your Own Textures” Course
RELEASING MODULE 1 TODAY!!
I’ve been VERY busy working on the first modules of the course.
If you are wondering how much you will learn, here is the course intro and outline.
Throughout this course you will not only receive instructions, but also the inspiration to create your own textures. Practice with the instructions, but then take those lessons and experiment! There are countless sources for brushes and other materials to create your own designs. In the last module I have included some of my favorite resources for various products.
All of the computer projects were completed in Photoshop CC. These projects can also be completed in any program that can do layers (PS Elements, Affinity, OnOne, Gimp, and countless others.).
Following is an Outline of the Modules of the Course:
Module 1 – Filters
We will utilize filters built in to Photoshop to create a variety of textures.
Module 2 – Brushes
- In Photoshop with PS brushes
- Third party brushes
- Free online brushes
- My brushes
- Create Your Own Brushes
o How to Create
o How to Save
o How to Export to .ABR files
Module 3 – Photographing Things to Use as Textures
- Techniques for photographing
- What makes a good texture photo
- Things to photograph
- Technique to even out the lighting
Module 4 – Using Procreate Brushes on an iPad
One more method to utilize creative brushes to make textures.
Module 5 – Modifying and Blending Textures
- Using Filters
- Blending two textures to create new ones
- Using a brush over a texture
Module 6 – Modifying Textures with Plug-Ins
I love using plug-in programs to modify my textures and create new ones!
- Smart Photo Editor
- Topaz Studio 2
- Nik Suite
Module 7 – Using Your Smart Phone & Apps
Phones are great not only for photographing things to use as textures, but also using some of the creative apps to further modify them (I use an iPhone but there are also many apps for Android – I will suggest – and demonstrate – some for each)
- JixPix Apps
- Image Blender
- Mextures
- Distressed FX+
- More!
Module 8 – Changing the Colors and Color Palettes of Textures
There are several ways to change the color of a texture including:
- Hue/Saturation Sliders
- Gradients
- Gradient Maps
- Color Theme/Palette pulled from a photo
Module 9 – Creating Textures “By Hand” with Household Items & Inexpensive Supplies
We will explore some of the endless methods you can create textures with various art supplies (most very inexpensive) and items you find around the house.
- Craft Paints
- Carved Potato Stamps
- Netting or Onion/Fruit Bag
- Sponges
- Stencils
- Coffee/Tea Stained Paper
- Watercolors
- Watercolors & Salt
- MANY MORE! (Full list in actual course!)
And, of course, once you create these awesome textures, you can use the methods from earlier modules to modify them for even more new textures!
