Sunday Sampler August 28

Today’s Sunday Sampler is some nice light grunge textures in shades of brown. I love this color for “warming up” an image. And remember, if you want the texture WITHOUT the color, just add a B&W adjustment layer and clip to your texture layer! Enjoy!

SEPTEMBER WEBINAR
Registration is Open!

Tuesday, September 20th at 4:00 pm EDT
Alternative Creative Software

You know I love my Topaz Studio 2 and all of it’s creative effects. Unfortunately, Topaz is no longer actively selling or updating this product. So I began the search for other software that can give me some of the same creative effects. I’ll review and demo some of my finds.

LUMINAR NEO
NEW! Extensions & Sale!

Luminar Neo has become a platform, but what does that mean?

All Luminar Neo owners will keep getting free platform improvements. That includes performance and stability updates as well as improvements to existing features such as Mask AI or new features such as the long-awaited Clone & Stamp tool we will release this September.

Becoming a platform means that Neo now also hosts Extensions. These are professional-level add-on tools for solving specific photo editing jobs.

What Extensions are in the 2022 Extensions Pack?

You have two options to get the Extensions:

If you own ANY Skylum Product:

  1. If you already own Luminar Neo, you can purchase the Extension Pack for $149 and you will continue to get access to performance and stability updates, plus any other free platform updates.
  2. Subscription model – Reg. $89, just $69 until Tuesday ($59 if you already own Neo). This includes access to all possible updates and upgrades of Luminar Neo AND access to all Extensions, including those released throughout your subscription period!

I know some people do not like the subscription model for software, but in this instance, it’s definitely your best deal. Should you end your subscription, you will still own the software you already have, you just would not get the major upgrades or future extensions unless you purchase them.

And, your purchase supports our friends at Skylum who are based in the Ukraine.

CHECK OUT THE DEALS HERE!

I’ve been late in getting this info out to you!
NOTE: sale ends Tuesday, Aug. 30th midnight ET

In Case You Missed this on Thursday…
VIDEO TUTORIAL
Using the High Pass Filter to Sharpen Your Images

In the webinar last week, I mentioned that I used to use the High Pass Filter for sharpening my images. Now I prefer Topaz Studio 2’s AI Clear Filter, or Luminar Neo. But this is a great filter for doing your sharpening in Photoshop without any plug-in software.

SURVEY…
Last Chance to Voice Your Opinion!

A HUGE thank you to all who have already completed my survey – the biggest response I’ve ever had!

If you haven’t done it yet, I would greatly appreciate if you would take 10 minutes to answer the survey! I’m looking for feedback on the blog, webinars, courses, workshops, products, etc. I want to be sure to continue to provide you with content and products that you really want!

And…as a result of the survey answers I’ve already gotten, I’m going to change doing the blog three times a week to twice a week (Sunday & Wednesday). Sunday will still be the “Sunday Sampler”, and Wednesday will combine “Around the Web” with any other fun tutorials or info I can include. Thanks!

  1. Thanks for this reminder!!!!! I heard you say it in the webinar but already I had forgotten. “And remember, if you want the texture WITHOUT the color, just add a B&W adjustment layer and clip to your texture layer! ”

On today’s to-do list…practice textures on some favorite flower photos…without the color of the texture. 📷😊

      1. I’ve been practicing clipping a B&W layer over a color texture. It seems that once you’ve done that you have to work on (my) second layer down to do any work on the image — to mask the texture off the butterfly and the coneflower she’s on. Since you can’t add another texture on top of this layer, is the next step to make a group from the layers and then continue with the addition of a 2nd texture?

Any advice you can provide will be gratefully accepted.

      2. Hi Jean,
You definitely can still add another texture above the B&W clipping mask – I do that all the time. If you want to mask the B&W texture, you would need to add the mask to the B&W adjustment layer and not the actual texture if you just wanted to mask the color. If you want to mask the actual texture, then apply the mask to the texture layer.
Unfortunately the images you attached don’t show up here, so feel free to email me if you need more info.
        Thanks,
        Hazel
